Administrative Modification Request

ADMINISTRATIVE MODIFICATION REQUEST (AMR) is a building code variance request for alternate method or materials meeting the intent of the code when it is not possible or practical to meet the letter of the code. Other cities have different means for such a variance, but the function is similar. In Oakland each individual AMR costs $200.00, and must be written up by and approved by the chief plan-checker and the fire marshal. Normally when one requests an AMR to omit some feature required by the code, often some mitigating measure will make it more likely to be approved.
