|
In Plain English: | Requirements: |
Live/work, also known as Residentially Oriented Joint Living and Work Quarters (JLWQ), or R-7 Occupancy under the code, are spaces in which the quiet enjoyment expectations of the neighbors in the building or adjacent buildings take precedence over work needs of the unit in question. Therefore, the predominant use of a live/work unit is residential, and commercial activity is a secondary use; employees and walk-in trade are not usually permitted. Live/work must comply with the live/work Building Code, and is allowed in any zone (in Manufacturing by securing a Conditional Use Permit). |
(Typically) no employees or walk-in trade allowed. Limited number of fixed machines, as used for woodworking, for example. Restricted levels of hazardous materials and activities. Must comply with residential restrictions on noise |
LIVE/WORK IS CURRENTLY ONLY PERMITTED TO BE BUILT IN OAKLAND IN A RENOVATED EXISTING COMMERCIAL OR INDUSTRIAL BUILDING. NEW CONSTRUCTION LIVE/WORK IS NOT PERMITTED.
